I’m not going to give you a discount…

  1.   … because you are a new client, and I don’t know what to expect.
  2.   … because you are an old client and you know my rates.
  3.   … because this job is for a new client.
  4.   … because this job is for an old client.
  5.   … because last time I gave you a discount.
  6.   … because last time I didn’t give you a discount.
  7.   … because I always give you discounts and I’m tired of it.
  8.   … because I never give discounts.
  9.   … because I know how much my services cost.
  10.   … because professional translators rarely give discounts.
  11.   … because if you want to work with me, you have to accept my rates.
  12.   … because if you don’t want to work with me, you are free to look for another translator.
  13.   … because I will not make up for the discount in future jobs, because you will keep asking for them.
  14.   … because it is a big job, months of guaranteed work, and I’m not going to work for peanuts.
  15.   … because it is a small job and I will have to juggle with my other commitments.
